Padma Shri Awardee KG Jayan, a renowned Carnatic musician from Kerala passed away at the age of 89 in Ernakulam district, Kerala. He was born on 21st November, 1934 in Kottayam, Kerala.

About KG Jayan:
i.He started his career in carnatic music at the age of 9 under the guidance of Carnatic Stalwarts such as: the Alathur Brothers and Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar.
ii.KG Jayan and his brother K.G.Vijayan were popularly known as “Jaya-Vijaya” in the Malayalam music industry.
iii.KG Jayan composed more than 1,000 songs and composed music for a few Tamil and Malayalam films.
iv.Both Jaya-Vijaya composed hundreds of devotional songs which were specifically devoted to Lord Ayappa. Their popular Ayappa devotional songs include: Sreekovil Nadathurannu and Hariharasuthane.

i.Some of his evergreen compositions include: “Ayyanu Thunayay”, “Mamala Vaazhum”, “Sreekovil Nada Thurannu”, “Malamukalil Vaazhum Devaa” etc.
ii.Jaya-Vijaya composed music for some of the famous films: Bhoomiyile, Malakhamar, Dharamasastha, Nirakudam, Sneham, Padhapooja etc.
Awards:
i.K.G. Jayan was honored with Harivarasanam Award, jointly instituted by Kerala Government and the Travancore Devaswom Board in 2013.
ii.He was honored with Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi Award, given annually by Kerala Government in 1991.
iii.K.G. Jayan was honored with Padma Shri, India’s 4th highest civilian award in 2019 in the field of Art.
